New Clubs joining Junior League

Following a meeting in November 2011 it is pleasing to announce that we will have two new teams in the Junior League for 2012.  These are the Scarisbrick Club, who are based at Falkland Road, Southport, and Burscough Cricket Club, whose team will be based around some of the players from the Windmill Warriors team.  The Windmill will be going down to one team and therefore there will be 5 teams in the League.

Junior Federation Success

The Ormskirk West Lancs Junior Team has had a much improved season than last year.....we didn't finish bottom!!!  All results and photos can be found on the Junior Federation pages of this website.

Success at Liverpool CC Competition & Lancs Selection

Well done to Fergal Wright and Kyle Dawes from the Botanic who reached the U14 final of the Liverpool CC Junior competition on 26th July, with Fergal Wright winning 21-19 in a tense final.  This demonstrates the progress being made by the clubs in the Bowls Forum in player development.  This follows on from Lancashire selection for three of our players in 2011 - Kyle Dawes, Fergal Wright and Matthew Gill

Burscough Wharf Event

On Saturday 12th February 2011 and for 2 hours on Sunday 13th Feb, the Bowls Forum set up a target wedge competition at the newly renovated Burscough Wharf.  This was very successful.  Everyone taking part was given 2 practice bowls and then 8 bowls at the target wedge.  A leader board was set up with the top three adults and juniors from each day getting a prize.  The top score was gained by Natalie Morley, one of the junior participants , who got 370 points. 

Just to say a big thank you to all those that helped out We raised the grand total of £44.26, which will go towards junior bowling locally.  In total 71 under 16s and 28 adults had a go.  Special thanks to Barry & Carroll Cheetham for all the time and effort of being there both days and getting the carpet etc. and to Jack Graves for making such an effort to get there. 

Formby Legion awarded Clubmark

The Formby Legion Bowling Club has been awarded Clubmark status by Sport England.  It is the first bowls club in the local area to be awarded this status and one of the first bowls clubs nationally.  This endorses the efforts put in by the club to encourage new juniors into the game. Successful Sport England Grant Bid

The Forum has been successful in getting just over £9,500 for its member clubs from Sport England to buy new bowls equipment, club tops, transport for Federation games and to get publicity material.  This is in addition to £500 from Burscough Festival Committee and £500 from West Lancs Borough Council in 2010.  The new bowls equipment, bought from Thurston in Liverpool,  has now been purchased.
