Ormskirk West Lancs Fixtures & Teams 2012

The three fixtures for 2012 will be held on the following dates at the areas indicated (exact venue still to be notified):

  • Sunday 6th May - Venue - Rochdale (Hare Hill Park Bowling Club, Hare Hill Road, Littleborough, OL15 9HG)
    • playing Heavy Woollen and Warrington
  • Sunday 3rd June -  Venue - East Lancs (Blackburn)
    • playing Furness & East Lancs
  • Sunday 1st July - Venue - Botanic Bowling Club, Churchtown, Southport
    • playing Leeds and Rochdale

At each venue the team will play one match with 8 players against each team and then play one 4 man match against each team.  Each player will only play in one of the 4 man matches, therefore each player will play 3 matches if a team of 8 is taken, 2 matches with a squad of 12.

Team for the Rochdale Match

Thanks to all those who attended the 'training session' at the Botanic - I hope you enjoyed it.  I was very impressed with the standard of bowling so early on in the saeson, especially as one or two hadn't picked up a bowl since last season. The selected team is now posted below. This does not necessarily contain all who I consider to be the strongest players.  this is because I want to, over the course of the three matches this season, to give everyone on the squad list a go.  This is with a view to several players moving up to the Youth team next year and therefore we need to get more juniors experienced.  I therefore want to ensure teams have an appropriate balance to them.  I have found selecting a team very difficult though with so many talented bowlers at my disposal.....very different from when we first started two years ago when it was hard to get 8 together!!

Basic information for the day is as follows:
- My mobile number in case of emergencies is 07813 577 328
- Arrive at the venue at about 10am
- Try and car share if possible - we have no monies for transport left.
- If for any reason it looks like you will not be able to come due to illness etc please give me as much notice as possible so I can give someone else the chance to play.
- All players will need to wear black/grey trousers (not jeans).  Should it be really hot (ho ho) 'tailored shorts' can be worn. If you already have a Orm/W Lancs Polo Shirt don't forget it, if not I will be bringing a selection, hopefully one of which will fit.....I'm on the hunt for an XL one for Alistair!!
- Everyone will play 2 matches - if you are not playing in a match you will be marking a card.  There will be breaks when you can go and play footy in the park, go on your ipod etc
- Be prepared for inclement weather - waterproofs essential as we will be playing even if it rains and a change of clothes may be advisable.
-  some form of refreshments will be available but it might be worth bringing snacks.
- It is a long day so bring things to amuse yourself with.....I am not sure what delights Littleborough holds, but there is a lake nearby. (Hollingsworth Reservoir which from memory might be worth a visit if there are bored family members)
- I expect to be leaving around 5/5.30pm.
- If you want to look at the fixtures/rules etc you can find these on the Federation website (http://www.federationbowls.org.uk/)
- Finally - DON'T FORGET YOUR BOWLS!!!
