Federation Merit, Blackburn 31st July 2011

Another very pleasant day for the Merit Final at Blackburn.  In the Under 12s Ormskirk West Lancs provided two of the semi finalists, with both Fergal Wright and Matthew Gill winning through.  Fergal came up against last year's winner, Kieran Clarke from Furness but lost out 21-12.  Matthew came through a tough semi final against Dylan from East Lancs 21-17.  The stage was set for a repeat of last year's final.  Kieran unfortunately, was Matthew's nemesis once more and Matthew could only muster 5 points.

Despite the overcast conditions the rain stayed off. The 12 and unders (split into two round robin groups) contained 4 Ormskirk West Lancs players - Matthew, Fergal, Harvey and Mike. Matthew Fergal and Harvey all competed in one group with Mike in the other.

There were some good matches. Matthew against Harvey was particularly close - 21 to 20 to Matthew. The run away Group winner was Kieran who beat Matthew 21-6, with Matthew coming in in second to enter the other semi final. In the other group Mike managed a couple of wins.

In the 13-16 year age group it was sudden death and Jack and Daniel from West Lancs both unfortunately fell at the first hurdle.

Matthew beat Jamie in the semi final to set up a final against his nemesis from earlier. In a good game Kieran ran out 21-14, with Matthew giving a far better performance.
